Chief Training Officer
Recently, Coach Packie has had the amazing opportunity to work with some professional athletes from his favorite local championship team The Golden State Warriors and the 2 time MVP. Packie has worked with children age 6 and older to professionals players both here and overseas. He has a unique approach to teaching and making sure the game is always enjoyable. Many young athletes are passionate about basketball and he wants to help not only ignite that fire, but allow it to grow so that it never burns out.
Coach Packie attended Holy Names University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Sports Management.
Ruta was born and raised in Lithuania and as of this fall she has returned there to work for UPBasketball remotely. She moved to the United States in 2012 where she attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, TN. She played at Western Kentucky University for two years, during those two years the team made it to the NCAA tournament both years. In 2015 Ruta transferred to the University of Southern Indiana, where she finished her playing career and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management. After graduation, she accepted a graduate assistantship position with Wichita State's women's basketball team. She graduated from Wichita State in May 2019, after graduating with a Master's degree Ruta moved to the Bay Area in June 2019 to pursue her career in sports administration and coaching. Ruta enjoys being part of the UPBasketball team because she loves sharing her appreciation and passion for basketball, as well as applying her experience in player development.
Oderah Chidom was born and raised in Oakland, CA. She graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School (c/o 2013). At O’Dowd she led her team to two state championships, was a McDonald’s All-American, WBCA All-American and played on the USA u17 team. Oderah attended Duke University. She was captain of the 2016-17 season and totaled a 55.4 field goal percentage, which ranked sixth on Duke’s career charts. Also, her 153 blocked shots ranked sixth as well. Oderah studied public policy and marketing & management. Oderah was drafted to WNBA and played one season for the Atlanta Dream. She also played in professionally in Europe for three seasons. Oderah is excited to join the UPB team and share her passion for the game.
Asha was born and raised in East Oakland, CA. She graduated in 2015 from Bishop O’Dowd High School. She was able to help her team win three state championships. Asha attended UC Berkeley and became Cal’s all-time 3pt leader (233), ranked 4th in assists (485), and ranked 15th in scoring (1309). She graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in Media Studies. After graduated, she played professionally in England for the Sheffield Hatters. She loves to work with aspiring athletes and trains them when she isn’t in the gym herself. Asha is blessed to be a part of UPB and excited to share her knowledge and experience.
Ashley Hawkins was raised in Sacramento, Ca. She attended Antelope High School where she was inducted in the Antelope High School's Women's Basketball Hall of Fame earning back to back first team all-league titles (c/o 2012). She was named MVP of the 2012 Sacramento Optimist All Star game and also played in the 2012 Sac vs. Bay All Star game. Ashley then went on to play two years at Vincennes University where she was captain of her team and nationally ranked in the top 100 JUCO women's basketball player rankings during her 2013-2014 season. After Vincennes, she went on to play three years at The University of Evansville where she red shirted for one out of the three years. At the University of Evansville she earned her degree in psychology. Ashley is excited to join the UPB team to share her passion and knowledge for the game with the younger generation to help them reach all their goals and get to the next level.
Coach Cal is a rising sophomore at Skyline College with varied passions in basketball and business. He attended Burlingame High School where he played varsity for 3 years. After graduating he red shirted one year at Sonoma State before transfering to Skyline College. He has worked for UPB for 3 years and loves seeing kids improve their self-esteem and confidence after working hard at the game.
Coach Josh played varsity basketball at Albany high school from sophomore to senior year. He was then recruited by Oberlin College where he was the starting point guard as a freshman. During his sophomore year, he has played in 25 games, making 23 starts averaging 29.5 per game. Coach Josh did 2 summer internships with UPBasketball and has trained with Coach Packie for 4 years. He is a recent college graduate, graduating with a double-major degree in both Economics and Psychology, and was recruited to play professional basketball in Israel's second division. The start of his professional basketball career has been delayed due to the Israeli government's response to COVID 19, but in the meantime, Josh is more than happy to be passing on his knowledge of the game to the younger generation at UPBasketball.
Bianca Turner and Coach Packie Turner started UPBasketball in Oakland, California in August 2016. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Santa Clara University with her Bachelors in Business Marketing. Bianca is passionate about creating an environment that teaches hard work and mental toughness. Each UPB program is designed with the athletes in mind. Ellie Lieberman was born and raised in San Mateo, CA. She attended Menlo School and is now a rising junior at Washington University in St. Louis, where she is studying American Culture Studies and Marketing with an emphasis in Sports Management. While she's not in class, she's managing UPB's Instagram and Twitter, or writing articles for SB Nation. Ellie is passionate about the intersection of storytelling and sports, and loves learning about all of UPB's clients beyond just their work on-the-court.
