Recently, Coach Packie has had the amazing opportunity to work with some professional athletes from his favorite local championship team The Golden State Warriors and the 2 time MVP. Packie has worked with children age 6 and older to professionals players both here and overseas. He has a unique approach to teaching and making sure the game is always enjoyable. Many young athletes are passionate about basketball and he wants to help not only ignite that fire, but allow it to grow so that it never burns out.
Coach Packie attended Holy Names University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Sports Management.
Chris Head was born and raised in Oakland California. He attended St. Mary’s College High School in Berkeley California. Chris graduated from Hampton University in 2013, with a NCAA tournament appearance. He was blessed to play overseas 2 plus years with the goal of continuing to play in the future. Chris hopes to mentor the kids he works with and show them the fundamentals to being a great person on and off the basketball court.
Coach Josh was born and raised in the Bay Area. He played basketball at Serra High School (C/O 2013) in San Mateo. He went away for college and received his B.S. in Kinesiology-Exercise Science from California State University, Long Beach in 2017. He is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and his focus is to impact lives through informing individuals of all age groups about body awareness and proper biomechanics. Basketball is his passion and after having multiple knee surgeries due to ACL tears he is able to share my journey. I teach the lessons I learned through my recovery to athletes in order to mitigate the likelihood of them getting injured and prepare their bodies to be resilient for their respective sport. I’m an avid runner and a member of the WeRunSF running club in San Francisco.
Julian was born and raised in Oakland California. Fresh out of Saint Mary’s College, he Majored in Kinesiology with a emphasis in Sport Management. Though he’s just finished his first year as a basketball coach, his obsession with hoops has lasted a lot longer. In high school he was team manager for the varsity basketball team, and in college he covered the Golden State Warriors for a Sport and Culture website. In 2014 he set a goal to be working within the world of basketball, and six years later he’s living his dream with UPB.
Ruta was born and raised in Lithuania. She moved to the United States in 2012 where she attended Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, TN. She played at Western Kentucky University for two years, during those two years the team made it to the NCAA tournament both years. In 2015 Ruta transferred to the University of Southern Indiana, where she finished her playing career and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management. After graduation, she accepted a graduate assistantship position with Wichita State's women's basketball team. She graduated from Wichita State in May 2019, after graduating with a Master's degree Ruta moved to the Bay Area in June 2019 to pursue her career in sports administration and coaching. Ruta is excited to join the UPB team because she loves sharing her love and passion for basketball, as well as applying her experience in player development.
Bianca Turner and Coach Packie Turner started UPBasketball in Oakland, California in August 2016. She grew up in Oakland and graduated from Santa Clara University with her Bachelors in Business Marketing. Bianca is passionate about creating an environment that teaches hard work and mental toughness. Each UPB program is designed with the athletes in mind. She strives to create fun and challenging opportunities for UPB athletes to grow. Giovana Frediani was born and raised in Oakland Ca. She graduated with her Bachelors Degree from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. When she moved back to the Bay Area in 2018 she began at UPBasketball. She runs the day to day at UPB while managing along side Bianca, any and all programs and clinics. Giovana also teaches group and private yoga lessons at UPB.
Coach Cal Spurlock completed his freshman year at Sonoma State last year. He selected Sonoma State to study business and play basketball. He played four years for Burlingame high School. There he was a three year starter on varsity as well as a first team all league selection in the peninsula athletic league. He aims to get better every time he steps foot on the floor and values the fundamentals of the game.
