UPB’s Fourth Summer Camp Kicks off on July 29

By: Dylan Tehada

With summer just around the corner, we are excited to announce our upcoming summer camps! Each camp will feature a different focus for young hoopers to expand their knowledge of the game while also honing their physical in game skills. The fourth camp this summer is a 5th-9th Grade Camp that will take place from July 29th to August 1st.

Coach Hannah will be leading these summer camps and seeks to hone in on specific facets of the game through various themes in addition to implementing drills and in game situations for campers. These themes will vary throughout the summer and hone basic basketball IQ skills to help athletes make the jump to higher levels of competitive hoops.

Week 1’s theme will feature footwork and foundational movements, Week 2 will feature passing, cutting and finishing, Week 3 will focus on footwork for dribble handoffs (DHO) and pick and rolls (PNR), and Week 4 will focus on moving off the ball and spacing on the court. We will focus on equipping athletes with the proper mindset and skills to move effectively off the ball and find easy buckets. In addition, athletes will learn how to space the floor in offensive sets, so they can better execute plays and create driving lanes for their teammates. Coach Hannah emphasizes young athletes honing in on these skills because spacing and moving off the ball are foundational to finding success in any offensive system.

“I think it's really important for kids to learn spacing to be good basketball players and also moving off the ball like knowing where your ball handlers are and what spots to move to,” Johnson said.

Athletes in this camp will be looking to establish good habits that will allow them to excel in the middle school level and prepare for the nuances of the high school game as well. Understanding how to find easy offense and apply proper spacing in game will add a whole new dimension to young hoopers’ games and allows them to add more nuance to any offense they are a part of.

We are excited to see the next generation of Bay Area hoopers show out at our upcoming summer camps and are looking forward to the new focuses and themes Coach Hannah will feature in each of the camps!
