UPB’s Second Summer Camp Kicks off on July 15

By: Dylan Tehada

With summer just around the corner, we are excited to announce our upcoming summer camps! Each camp will feature a different focus for young hoopers to expand their knowledge of the game while also honing their physical in game skills. The second camp this summer is a third through seventh grade camp that will take place from July 15th to July 18th.

Coach Hannah will be leading these summer camps and seeks to hone in on specific facets of the game through various themes in addition to implementing drills and in game situations for campers. These themes will vary throughout the summer and hone basic basketball IQ skills to help athletes make the jump to higher levels of competitive hoops.

Week 1’s theme will feature footwork and foundational movements, while Week 2 will feature a theme more geared toward basketball IQ and execution as athletes will practice Pass, Cut, and Finish. We will focus on equipping athletes with the basketball IQ to make reads on offense and establish foundational skills of finding ways to score off the ball. Coach Hannah emphasizes young athletes honing in on these basketball IQ skills because she believes having a good feel and knowledge for the game is what sets basketball players apart.

“I think [the Pass, Cut, and Finish theme] is important for kids who think they have to have the ball in their hand all the time to score. Teaching them that cutting off the ball and moving is a good way to score as well,” Johnson said.

Athletes in this camp will be looking to establish good habits that will allow them to excel in the middle school level and prepare for the nuances of the high school game as well. Unlocking new ways to score and understanding how to move off the ball will add a whole new dimension to young hoopers’ games and allows them to thrive on any team and in any role throughout their careers.

We are excited to see the next generation of Bay Area hoopers show out at our upcoming summer camps and are looking forward to the new focuses and themes Coach Hannah will feature in each of the camps!
